Improving relational resilience in enterprise families using Everything DiSC® Agile EQ®
When Andrew Doust, founder of Plenitude Partners (part of the KnowledgeWorkx partners network), talks about his work, he is clear: “We’re dealing with people first, not money.”
Plenitude Partners works with ultra-high net worth families, often business-owning families navigating generational transition. Their focus is not tax structures or investment vehicles. It is the human system: relationships, communication, trust, and the emotional fabric that determines whether wealth becomes a gift or a burden for the next generation.
Increasingly, Andrew and his team are using Everything DiSC® Agile EQ® as a core tool in that work.
The Work: Strengthening the Family Before Structuring the Wealth
Andrew describes a common pattern. Many of the families he works with have been built by a highly driven founder, often a dominant, visionary, self-assured leader who created extraordinary success.
But along the way:
Relationships were sometimes neglected.
Emotional intimacy was limited.
Difficult conversations were avoided.
Children admired their parents but feared disappointing them.
When wealth transitions from one decision-maker to multiple siblings, the dynamic changes dramatically.
"The directive leadership style that drove success in the founding ."
Andrew puts it simply:
“If one dominant voice continues to run the family until death, the system will likely fail on the next watch.”
This is where Agile EQ becomes powerful.
Why Agile EQ?
Many assessment tools exist. Andrew values Agile EQ for one critical reason: it links behavioral style to emotional intelligence in action.

Agile EQ makes emotional intelligence practical by mapping eight mindsets around the DiSC® circle:
Families quickly see that emotional intelligence is not just about empathy. Sometimes the emotionally intelligent move is to stand firm, which reflects a Resolute posture. Other times it is to step back and listen, which reflects Receptivity. The power lies in agility, the ability to shift intentionally for the good of the family.
The Dominant Son Who Needed Receptivity
Andrew worked with a sibling group where one brother naturally operated in a Self-Assured posture. He had a large presence, a strong voice, and made quick decisions
He believed that was leadership because that is what his father modeled.
In a sibling-led system, this approach shut others down. His siblings interpreted his dominance as dismissal. He interpreted their silence as agreement or apathy.
Using Agile EQ, Andrew invited him to experiment with Receptivity:
Hold space.
Ask before asserting.
Resist correcting immediately.
Draw out others’ thinking.
Decisions still got made, but with alignment rather than compliance. The family system became stronger.
From Irritant to Asset
In another family enterprise, two brothers had become irritants to each other.
One was an idea generator with ‘high-i energy’. The other was analytical and cautious with ‘high C-energy’.
In meetings, ideas were floated enthusiastically and then dissected critically. Over time, this dynamic felt personal and demoralizing.
Through Agile EQ, they reframed:
The handbrake became risk management.
The dreamer became innovation fuel.
What once felt like opposition became complementary strength.
As Andrew describes it:
“Moving from irritant to asset.”
That reframing changed the trajectory of their relationship.
The Father Who Demotivated Innovation
A founder father wanted his children to bring ideas into the business. Yet every suggestion was quickly shut down with reality.
His analytical critique, intended as wisdom, was experienced as discouragement.
When shown how his emotional posture was received by his children, he realized something important. His drive to be right was suppressing the very creativity he desired to see in his children!
Agile EQ gave him language to shift without abandoning his strengths
Silence Is Not Neutral
One of the most powerful insights Andrew shares with families is this:
“Your silence is not a gift to the family.”
In emotionally complex rooms:
• Silence may be read as agreement.
• Silence may be read as disengagement.
• Silence may create resentment.
Agile EQ helps quieter members recognize the cost of non-participation. It also helps dominant members create safety for contribution.
Families begin to see how decades of patterned responses, what Andrew calls perfected dysfunctions, can be rewired.
“We all spend years perfecting our dysfunctions.”
Beyond the Family: Ripple Effects
The impact extends beyond family harmony.
When families are relationally healthy and emotionally strong, Andrew identifies the following areas of impact:
More joyful and rewarding relationships
More intentional philanthropy as the family look beyond themselves
Healthier more secure governance transitions.
Better decision making on big and small matters.
In one family that first used Agile EQ in 2019, the process was so transformative that years later they asked Andrew to take new in-laws and next-generation members through the same journey, so everyone shared the same language.
They built what Andrew calls a family operating system. It has endured.
Start with Relationships Before Money
Andrew’s message to wealth advisors, private bankers, and legal advisors is simple.
“If you want long-term success with families, start relationally”.
Before asset allocation, ask:
What has been hard lately?
Where are tensions rising?
Who feels unheard?
Healthy relational systems make better financial decisions.
Agile EQ provides the language and structure to have those conversations safely.
A Practical Application of Intercultural Agility
Andrew is creating what we at KnowledgeWorkx call the “third cultural space” inside families.
He helps them:
Move from positional power to shared influence.
Move from emotional rigidity to agility.
Move from reaction to intentional design.
The result is not just wealth preservation, but relational resilience across generations.
